About the play

Can media change our behaviour or, more specifically, does violence in the media inspire violence in real life? And if it does who is then responsible for the damage that is done? These are the central questions in our upcoming production: Ben Elton's "Popcorn".

Like all deeply human questions, they cannot be answered once and for all. With every new generation, with every new media, they keep popping up. They popped up in the 18th century, when a novel named "Werther" was said to make people suicidal. More recently, they popped up when violent video games and splatter movies were linked to school massacres in the United States as well as in Germany.

Ben Elton's answer is "Popcorn".

It is, in our humble opinion, the most entertaining and witty play ever written about such a serious topic. So prepare to be shocked and prepare to be entertained (often at the same time). Prepare to die laughing at things you would not find remotely funny under ordinary circumstances.
